1897-An 18 size open face pocket watch by American Waltham Watch Co. The single-sunk white enamel dial bears roman numerals in the hour chapter, and an unusal series of arabic numerals below each roman numeral. In order, 13 through 24. The seconds dial bears black arabic numerals in 10-second intervals and hash marks. The hands are blued spades. The face is inscribed American/ Waltham. The crystal is intact, the dial shows crazing--particularly near the 1-2 hours. Stem wind, stem set. The interior of the rear case is inscribed Fahy`s Ore Silver No. 1. The full-plate, 15 jewel movement is inscribed 15 Jewels/ Safety Pinion/ American Waltham/ Watch Co. and the serial number, 7327328, dates the watch to c1897. An early railroad timepiece with an unusual dial. Very fine condition.
